POSITION DESCRIPTION
ABOUT THE SOUND CITIES ASSOCATION (SCA):
The Sound Cities Association helps cities in King County act locally and partner regionally to create vital, livable communities through advocacy, education, leadership, mutual support, and networking. Collectively, our 38 member cities represent over one million constituents in King County. More information can be found on our website, www.SoundCities.org.
Becoming the Executive Director of Sound Cities Association is a dynamic opportunity to lead a unique and powerful organization that pulls regional leaders and policymakers together to fulfill our vision of, “38 cities. A million people. One voice.”
Our Executive Director sustains our work through, creating a welcoming, supportive, and educational space for the region’s elected officials and their staff, providing regional issue/policy analysis, sustaining advocacy opportunities through 100+ seats on regional and influential committees and boards, offering relationship connection with corporate sponsors, and ensuring the fiscal responsibility and integrity of the organization.
Our Executive Director will enjoy myriad personal connection opportunities and will need keen administrative and organizational abilities while directing a small staff, overseeing the work plan, sustaining our budget, and implementing the vision of the organization.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
1. Annually reviews and presents goals and objectives to the Board of Directors, to identify priorities and formulate and update Association policies and procedures:

- Reviews the organization’s policies and procedures, and makes
- recommendations to the Board as necessary to assure continued appropriateness/effectiveness.
- Identifies challenges, opportunities, interests, needs, and concerns for Members and Sponsors.
- Makes written and oral reports to the Board of Directors concerning the operation of the Association.
- Develops and implements Association goals and objectives.
2. Evaluates, organizes, develops, implements, and directs the Association’s programs and activities to meet identified needs.

- Oversees implementation of the approved action plans which emerge out of the strategic plan; adopted by the Board for future endeavors of the Association.
- Keeps abreast of the economic conditions/situations and adjusts as necessary to assure the continued viability of the Association.
- Directs the preparation of the annual operating budget, for approval by the governing board.
3. Develops an annual report for presentation to the Association membership.
4. Develops, maintains, and uses effective systems for administering the programs and budget approved by the Board.
5. Works toward the development and maintenance of a positive public relations program that serves the best interests of SCA.
6. Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, etc., to keep abreast of emerging public policy issues, maintains a professional status, and remains aware of future challenges and opportunities for the Association.
7. Provides leadership and support on county-state-federal and other policy issues confronting member cities. Coordinates the Association’s process for determining the views of membership regarding such matters.
8. Serves as spokesperson regarding policy and issue positions.
RELATIONSHIPS
1. Maintains a favorable public image and works toward continued development of positive relationships within the community, especially members of the Association.
2. Represents SCA at local, regional, and state level.
3. Motivates (or inspires) members to become involved and actively participate in SCA.
4. Displays leadership and supervisory ability, and the willingness to work harmoniously with others.
PERSONNEL FUNCTIONS
1. Establishes internal organization plan that promotes efficiency and effectiveness in achieving the objectives of SCA.
2. Recruits and selects competent personnel for approved staff positions.
3. Counsels and, when necessary, terminates employment of staff.
4. Delegates administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to staff personnel as deemed necessary to perform their assigned duties.

1. Demonstrates integrity and loyalty to the Association.
2. Manifests good judgment.
3. Functions independently with flexibility and personal integrity, and works effectively with personnel, members, the community, and state and federal agencies.
4. Possesses good oral and written communication skills.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The SCA Executive Director is offered a competitive salary based on qualifications. A $500/month car allowance, cell phone, and laptop computer are also provided. Health insurance is provided at 100% for ED and dependents (80% for spouse). SCA participates in the WA State PERS retirement system. The ED is provided with 160 vacation hours/year for years 1-5 plus 12 holidays. Sick Leave is accrued at 8 hours/month.
